Diana Thompson was awarded the Judith Heaton Trophy in the 2023 Experimental Watercolour Group workshop exhibition.

The stunning portrait of Diana’s goddaughter Erin was voted the favourite picture on show by members of the workshop and she was awarded the trophy by leader Doreen Walsh. Diana’s portrait was completed over a couple of weeks and was truly experimental as it was painted in inks with different strength brews of tea. It was prompted by an online workshop by Carne Griffiths during the Covid lockdown.

Judith Heaton was a long-standing LSAAS official and enthusiastic member of the group until her untimely death. Judith’s husband Phil purchased the trophy vase as a legacy and the group had it engraved so it could be presented annually.

Naturally, Diana celebrated her victory with a nice cup of tea!

The Experimental Watercolour Group is led by Doreen Walsh and Carole Ainley and the group meet on Tuesday mornings from September to June.
