Presidents speech

Our new president’s first speech

Hello! My name is Jacqueline King and I can’t quite believe how quickly time has passed since I agreed to become this year’s President.

Art was never on the horizon for me as I went through various stages of schooling and college both abroad and in the UK. It wasn’t until my husband, Graham, and I went to live in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, that I decided to join a watercolour group to meet fellow lady expats. A bit like starting school, I was presented with a blank scary A4 size watercolour piece of paper with the instructions to draw an egg shape on it. Utter panic set in! Did she want a small egg? A medium egg? Eventually the group leader came over to me and drew an egg shape for me. That was the beginning of my journey in art. I now find myself loving oils and especially painting landscapes. For all our new members who are beginning their own journey in our society, don’t ever be afraid of that empty canvas or paper, there is always help at hand from us all.

I want to take this opportunity to remind everyone that we need volunteers to help the committee with various tasks, either on the committee in a particular role or just by helping out when needed. If you feel that you can give some time to help, then please speak to anyone on the committee, you won’t be turned away!

I wish everyone an enjoyable year ahead!
